As the protagonist, Tiltyu's growths and skills are well-balanced, so she'll be one of your main forces until the end. Her personal weapon, Vajra, is extraordinarily powerful - however, its repairing fees are also high, so use with caution. It's recommended to have her hold the Magic Ring you get in Ch. 1 to improve Vajra's power even further. Since she's unmatched in the Prologue, be cautious not to forget raising the other units.
Reinhardt's class is the same as Ovo's, but thanks to his minor Tordo lineage he's better at magic. He can only use swords until class change, but due to his good Magic growth he can use magic swords better than other units. If you consider his growths and Tordo blood, his promotion should naturally be Mage Knight. If he becomes a Forrest Knight, his sword rank becomes A and he gets Continue, thus becoming more offense-oriented, but the Strength precedence leaves him as a rather incomplete unit.
Unlike Reinhardt, Ovo excels in Strength and Defense, but it isn't like he can't use magic. He doesn't have holy blood, but his growths and skills are exceptionally powerful. Since magic tomes might be insuficient if both him and Reinhardt become Mage Knights, it's enough to change him into a Forrest Knight.
Specializing in Strength and Defense, he has a good balance of Skills, offense and defense. As far as class change goes, he can be a Marshall if you need a tank, or a Pursuit-having Lindwurm if you want him to take part in offense. Big Shield as a personal skill is an advantage.
Since he takes part in both 1st and 2nd generations, Asvel's balance is good. His personal weapon, Graphcalibur, is unusually strong; however, if you rely too much on it, money will likely be tight so beware. Since his starting equipment in 2nd gen is Palas Liana, you won't have a hard time in Ch. 7 even if he passes down his items to children. Promotion-wise, the offensive choice would be Archmage. However, even as a Saint, he'd be able to use staves and light magic, and thanks to Graphcalibur his attack power wouldn't be too weak despite the B rank in Wind. Since his 2nd gen growths are a rank above his 1st gen's, it could be better to raise him the least as possible in 1st gen. However, keep in mind that Ch. 7 might be troublesome if he's too weak.
Even though Levin's class is Sage, staff users are rare in early game so his main function ends up being healing. His starting weapon, Sylpheed, is quite strong, so he's probably fine just with it until he gets Holsety... however, since he goes back to Silesia right after obtaining it, Holsety will be mainly used in 2nd gen.
His growths rates are good, but since he doesn't have anything special he has a hard time in early game. He catches up after class change, though, so patiently raise him until then. Master Knight is the prominent class change choice, but Espion gives Critical and can't be discarded either. Ultimately, it's up to the player's tastes.
Being a direct descendant of Hezul, Elto is extraordinarily balanced, becoming also strong against magic after getting the Mistortin in Chapter 4. His class changes are the sword specialist Vanguard, and the axe-using Mercenary.
Since Othin's Strength and Speed balance is good, he can use axes well. However, his weak point is that he has a hard time doubling due to his lack of Pursuit. As far as class changes go, the Mercenary is handy for sword use and Continue skill. Grand Knight isn't bad, due to superior maneuverability, but its lack of an offensive class skill is an issue.
An important mage unit with Nihil. Promotion-wise, he's stronger as Sage, but those who want mobility may choose Mage Knight as well. Thanks to his Narga lineage, he can still use Aura Rain so his attack power won't decrease much.
If you combine Ambush and the Killer Bow, Ronan has a high chance of striking down opponents on counterattack. His main promotion choice is the Pursuit-bestowing Sagittary. Arrow Knight has higher mobility and Continue, but its lack of a Pursuit skill might make the use of a Speed Ring desirable.
Cuas has Major Noba and the Gae Bolg right from joining time, so he's got automatic combat usefulness.
Since he's a horseback unit with Elite, Scorpio is lively going to live doing chip damage. His default class change is Arrow Knight. As a Marshall, his maneuverability worsens, but his stats and skills are improved all-around. Not too bad, if you don't think about his growths.
The only flier in the Prologue, Arion is an important unit who changes the game's difficulty quite a bit depending on the way he's used. His standard class change is the flier Lindwurm, but you can choose the all-around strong Master Knight class if you feel you don't need a flier.
Arden has early game issues due to Thief's weak bases, but since his growths are top class he'll catch up upon promotion. The Espion class is attack-oriented, so he doesn't look bad compared to other frontline units. The Grassrunner is offensively weaker compared to the Espion, but since it specializes in maneuverability, it allows hit-and-run tactics with stealing.
Azel's growths and skills are average, but his class skill Charisma is priceless. It's good to raise him until chapter 3, as a Nihil-having mage dealing chip damage.
Ethnya's growths are average, but Wrath is extraordinarily useful. Daim Thunder and Wrath are powerful when combined, so let's make use of it. Promotion-wise, Mage Knight is better if mobility is desired, while Sage for overall strength... however, she'll probably retreat shortly after class changing, which is a pity.
You can't expect much from Adean offensively, but she's precious as a highly mobile healer. Her class change options are the somewhat hysically stronger Valkyria, or Saint, a staff/light magic specialist with lower mobility.
An excellent unit who has high speed and crit, Ethlin can recover some of the damage she receives with Sol. As per class change, she can become the balanced Bastard, who can use axes up to B rank, or a Lindwurm with flier utility. However, having too many fliers may be an issue, so take a look at the other units' classes before deciding.
Lachesis an important unit with a precious Charisma skill, but since she doesn't have any offensive skills you might want to reinforce her with weapons and items. Her strongest promotion is the magic-wielding Apostle. If you aren't going to use magic, the highly mobile Enlil Knight is fine as well.
Saphy's start is slow and her level is low, but since she has Elite and staves she'll progress quickly. Thanks to her Narga and Blagi bloodlines, she's able to class change into a Sage with A rank in light and staves, which is her strongest option. Her light and staff ranks are still A as Master Knight, but the Magic and Resistance decrease is somewhat an issue. However, the other stats are better balancesd, and the higher mobility can't be overlooked.
Thanks to her Life skill, Misha's forte are independent flights, to a degree. Promotion-wise, the advanced Enlil Knight is a good and balanced option. She can use magic as an Apostle, but her Magic growth is low so she wouldn't be that effective. However, the class skill Tenseiken is powerful, so she could fight just fine with swords.
You might be tricked into thinking that Laylea is only good for dancing, but the truth is that her battle power doesn't fall behind the others'. However, since her dancing ability can't indeed be matched, chances are you'll only be able to see her fighting prowess in the arena.
The peerless Ayra, in good health. Since she's too strong, be cautious not to neglect the other units' training.
Since she's Reinhardt's younger sister, Olwen has all of his skills. Her personal Mage Lord class is among the strongest of all. Furthermore, her personal Holy Sword's repair fees are high, so she won't let anybody else use it. She's a bit too strong compared to the other units when she joins, so you might want to have her use a weak weapon for a while.
A direct descendant of Fala, Yurius is a powerful mage. Since he gets Continue and Charisma when promoted to Mage Prince, you might want to promote his as soon as possible, but ponder things carefully since he becomes an enemy in the Final Chapter.
Despite having minor Dain lineage, Pahn is a rebellious man who doesn't use lances and opposes his parents. Among the two, he has attack-oriented growths and skills. His Nihil, which nullifies critical hits, is especially precious. If you choose to recruit him, it might be better to make him a frontline fighter by promoting him to Espion. He can get some activity as a Grassrunner as well, but he would be somewhat lacking.
Just like Pahn, Lifis is a rebellious man who doesn't use lances and opposes his parents. His growths and skills are more defense-oriented than Pahn's. If you recruit him, he can class change into Espion to make use of his Speed and Luck growths, or Grassrunner for decoy and money stealing purposes. Since he can somewhat fight in the front lines due to his Tenseiken, perhaps Espion would be a better choice.
A direct descendant of Baldo, Celice is Tyrfing's user. He's the only unit who can dismount. He has higher mobility and defense when mounted, but increased offense when dismounted. Pay attention to each of his classes' skills, stats and equippable weapons.
A direct descendant of Ulir, Patty is the girl who inherited Bridget's will. She's one of the few units with a fixed class change, and both her base and advanced classes are personal. Ichieval is powerful so she doesn't need other bows, but you might want to give her another one anyway if you're worried about money. Once promoted to Silmerie, she can use swords as well, not falling behind the other sword users.
Leidrick's personal weapon is Garm, also appropriately called Dozel's Shield. It has no attack power, but since it grants Life as well he can serve as a decoy or wall with it. Naturally, you can have him use other weapons to fight in the front lines, so he can be an extraordinarily reliable unit.

Since her starting weapons are just Vajra and a Life staff, you'll probably want to pass down some magic tomes. She can inherit swords as well, but they can't really compare to Vajra. Perhaps Palas Selenia and Thunderstorm would be desirable?

Equipment: Holsety | Equipment: Thunder, Wind |
When deciding the husband for the mage, Levin was an easy choice. Ethnya has a different hair color in the original work, but I figured that it would be indeed better to change it to match her children's.
Since Tinny joins late, Holsety is enough for her. When class-changing, Sage is the natural choice due to its affinity with Holsety. However, Mage Knight has lower overal stats but higher mobility, while Holsety still allows enough battle power.
Arthur has Thunder and Wind as starting weapons, but just that isn't quite enough. Therefore, have Ethnya pass down Sylpheed if she managed to class change, or Daim Thunder if she didn't. However, there's that small issue that the weapons Arthur inherit won't be usable in Ch. 4 and 5. As for promotion, all mobile mages are useful, so Mage Knight is fine. If you want attack power, however, the go for Sage, which has lower movement but the Critical skill.

An Adean that won't marry someone unlike her big sister Bridget. So, who should she choose?
The only unit who can inherit bows. When you think about Lester's weapons, indeed it'll probably be good to choose a husband who can use bows. If you choose a husband who doesn't have Pursuit, you can have him class change into the Pursuit-bestowing Sagittary, while having him hold on a Speed Ring until then. If you make him an Arrow Knight and don't let him keep the Speed Ring, his attack power will become a little weak.
If you choose Adean's husband focusing on Lester, Rana's offense is improved as well in the end so there's no issue. She can inherit Relieve and Warp staves. She can't really fight until class change, but if you want to have her help killing bandits let her inherit a magic sword. About the promotions, the mobile healer Valkyrie is practical, but the Saint can use Reserve with its A rank in staves, which is a big deal. She's one of the few units with three options. If you want to have Rana use the Ichieval, choose Scorpio as Adean's husband and take it from Patty.

Since she became free to love whoever she wants, her children's classes changed as well. Leaf is now the older brother while Althena is the younger sister, so their places are swapped. Since Ch. 6 has mainly armor-types and fliers, having them inherit the Rapier, Sieglinde and/or Florete might make things easy.
It'd be better if he had a Pursuit-bestowing father if he's becoming a Paladin, but it doesn't matter if he can inherit the Speed Ring. If Othin is his father, he becomes a major Baldo and, thus, able to use the Tyrfing. Paladin is his most balanced and mobile class change, but he can also become a Swordmaster for improved offense.
Don't be mistaken, she inherits Ethlin's growths and items this timearound. Just like Leaf, she can use the Tyrfing is Othin is her father. Since her growths and skills are balanced, she's fine with a Leaf-based pairing. As far as class change goes, Bastard is more balanced, but the Lindwurm has flier utility.

Originally a princess with a brother complex. Since she's his sister-in-law this time around, will she be able to fulfill her lifelong dream?
A unit that had her inheritance position swapped, Nanna can be raised as you deem fit. Her base skills are a bit weak, so you'll want to choose a husband who will strengthen that point. Her default class change would be Apostle, but if you don't want to use magic the mobile Enlil Knight is a good option as well.
Aless's abilities are similar to Nanna's, so a Nanna-centric pairing will inevitably strengthen him as well. If Eltoshan is the father, he can use the Mistortin as well. His personal weapon, Raze Tar, is a Mistortin copy made by Lachesis, being a quite strong sword.

A Saphy who is unforgiving even if facing Divine Weapons. Her minor Heim is just for Narga!Linoan.
Thanks to Saphy's Holy Blood bonuses, Dean's useful from the start as a flier with high Magic and Resistance. As far as promotion goes, the flying Lindwurm is somewhat handy, but if you can make up for the lack of Pursuit the Continue-bestowing Paladin can't be ignored. He can be an okay Archmage even if you don't choose a mage husband for his mother; besides, he can even use Narga if Homeros is his father.
Don't forget that Linoan is the only one who can inherit A and B rank staves. If Homeros is her father, she can use Narga even at her base class. An unit whose class change should be chosen based on who's her father.

What on earth was Eltoshan's mistaken curse? That'll always be a mistery.
Since Misha already has Pursuit, you can choose her husband without worrying about that. Those who can easily handle magic take precedence. His basic class change is Master Knight, but one can't ignore the Lindwurm's mobility. The Paladin, despite having lower stats compared to Master Knight, has Continue as class skill, which isn't bad.
Karin has the advantages of having Pursuit and being able to inherit A lances by default. Her basic promotion is Enlil Knight, but one can't simply ignore the well-balanced Apostle either. Her favoured parent would be one able to handle magic well, too.

A Laylea who became Ayra's younger sister. As expected, she seems to prefer younger guys... who will she choose?
Since he gets Pursuit by default, you don't need to worry about that when choosing a husband for Laylea. His base class change is Grand Knight. Bastard has the disavantages of lowered movement and fixed Axe level, but the stat balance is better, grants Continue and allows sword use.
Since her main activity will be dancing, it's better to choose the pairing thinking about Brighton. Just like Laylea, she has a great hidden power.

An Ayra who became major Odo. There's no mistake that she'd become a legend if she had stayed as a pirate.
If you haven't done Othin x Laylea, Skasaher is the only unit who can inherit A rank axes. Since he doesn't get Pursuit even after class change, it would be good to pair Ayra with a husband who can give that skill, but it'll be no issue if you can have him inherit the Speed Ring. His strongest promotion is the Mercenary, but you can also choose Grand Knight if you want mobility.
The unmatched unit who surpasses even Ayra. Her base class change is the well-balanced Swordmaster. Espion is no worse, though, since it grants Critical, while Steal allows easy raising of funds for repairing the Balmung.
